Educator and performer Dr. Christopher Murphy, a band director in Maumee, Ohio, holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a certificate in saxophone performance from the University of South Carolina, a master’s degree in saxophone performance from Bowling Green State University (BGSU), and a doctorate in contemporary music with a cognate in music cognition from BGSU. He has studied with Clifford Leaman, John Sampen, Marie-Bernadette Charrier, Claude Delangle, Fred Hemke, Allison Balcetis, and Vincent David, among others.
With an appetite for experimentation, Chris brings to life music that tells captivating stories and shares fresh perspectives. As a nationally renowned chamber musician, Chris has travelled from Indiana and the Fischoff semi-finals (Ultraviolet Quartet, 2017) to an Artist Residency at Vermont’s New Music on the Point (Altered Sound Duo, 2018). Through collaborations, premieres, and commissions from composers Erin Rogers, David Vayo, and others, Chris cultivates an inclusive, energetic, and unique environment for learners and listeners alike.
